This is a complete disaster... We discovered the Quarter for the first time in June and fell in love with it. We thought how wonderful it would be to live in the area and work at the market... Having housing there wouldn't work AT ALL. Some wonderfully ecclectic antiques warehouses would disappear forever The text that accompanies the video says:
"The St Michael's trading estate aka the Art & Vintage Quarter has been under threat of demolition for years. New plans have just been submitted. The red brick artists studios and the cafe buildings would remain. All other warehouses would be knocked down to be replaced by housing. These images were taken on vintage market day in July. This is one monthly event that locals and visitors would lose. Every working day there are up to 200 people working in St Michael's. These businesses are not so interesting visually but vital to Bridport: a recycling centre that keeps tonnes of rubbish away from landfill; a company that cooks great food for local schools and care homes; a covered area for kids and teenagers (and grown-ups) into bmx or skates to stay out of the rain and maybe out of mischief due to boredom; a cleaning company; carpenters, masons, artists... There are many businesses and families that rely on tourism in the town, directly and indirectly. Bridport without St Michael's Art and Vintage Quarter is not as unique and interesting as it is with. These images were taken on vintage market day in July. This is what we would lose. Other businesses in St Michael's are a recycling centre that keeps tonnes of rubbish away from landfill; a company that cooks great food for schools and care homes; a cleaning company; carpenters, masons, artists... According to artist Kit Glaisyer there are about 200 people working in this part of Bridport. Losing the art and vintage quarter of Bridport is not a decision that can be taken lightly. There are many businesses and families that rely on tourism in the town, directly and indirectly. Bridport without St Michael's is not as unique as it is with." Comments are closed.
