27/8/2012 I have been reading...The past ten days or so, I have been reading... The two books above being very serious, thought-provoking ones, I've now switched to funny, surreal works, alternating between ...
23/8/2012 Scandinavian loveScandinavia suits me. I have been to Norway, Denmark and Sweden and would go to Iceland tomorrow if it there were not for that dreaded flight in between the UK and the island. I love the landscape, the mood, the closeness to Nature, the myths and legends... Anyhow, here's my favourite video of the day, courtesy of Of Monsters and Men, an Icelandic band... 23/8/2012 The most dramatic cuppa ever!Tea is my fuel. It restores me, refreshes me, cheers me up...
But I have to say, I've never thought about it in such a dramatic way! ALAN RICKMAN MAKES A DRAMATIC CUPPA 19/8/2012 The right place might become a bookIn June 2011, I discovered Dorset.
The whole county is absolutely stunning, and I immediately felt at home, drawn to the very special beauty of its landscape. Already at the time, I had become obsessed with one particular place in West Dorset: Abbotsbury. I had written a blog about it at the time, entitled THE RIGHT PLACE. The Right Place has now become the working title of what will either be my third or fourth novel. I already have an idea for an urban novel, Anti, but the draw of Dorset has increased since that very first visit - I have now been there three times and am about to go back to Dorset for two full weeks. I guess only time will tell which of the two novels will become the third one. This will depend on my ability to spend time researching and writing in Dorset itself, something I am very keen to do, but haven't got the funds for! I have now decided that Abbotsbury and Saint Catherine's chapel will play a central role in the novel, and I already have in mind to get the rights to print the lyrics of PJ Harvey's song The Wind - about Saint Catherine's chapel - at the beginning of the book. 16/8/2012 Work...There's going to be another week without touching the books, I'm afraid... All very frustrating! I
10/8/2012 A blog from MaldonMy partner in crime Matt ArtPix has posted a lovely POST ABOUT THE LOVELY TOWN OF MALDON. There are some gorgeous boat pictures in there! Go and enjoy the read... 10/8/2012 Signing off for a bitFreelance assignments have come in, and so I won't be able to work on the books for a while...
I hope to be able to post an alternative cover on here soon. I appreciate being self-employed more and more, as it offers me the flexibility of working on my own projects... It is also good for self-confidence and building up resilience! Matt ArtPix has been hard at work on the Arcane Publishing logo and the I Am a Muse cover.
We are now getting closer to the finished product. There is still quite a lot to do, including getting the right silhouette artwork, but as seen below, this is looking like a proper book cover! Also, the design is enhanced by the US trade size I have picked. 7/8/2012 Cover paintingSplish, splash! I have been getting my brushes out today. I am attempting a simple artwork for my book cover! The red paint expresses several things in the book: it is about an artist and his muse, and therefore I wanted the cover to have the texture of paint and a stylised, slightly mysterious feminine silhouette.
Also, the red can refer to one of the character's nickname, the Crimson Lady, her hair colour; it is also the colour associated with blood, love, anger. Red is my favourite colour after black! I haven't been incredibly successful so far, but I quite like that one, it is so simple: 6/8/2012 Setback number 2OK, I have promised myself that I would remain calm...
It looks like the first of my very shiny ISBNs will have to be abandoned... Because I have changed the format of my book AFTER having registered the title with the Nielsen Agency (I really should have waited to do this, but at the time I thought I had everything sorted out!) it looks like I will have to assign a new ISBN to the same unpublished book as format is not something that can be changed without moving on to another ISBN... ARGH indeed!!!!!! UPDATE 07/08/2012: Nielsen have just emailed and because the book hasn't appeared on the database yet and hasn't been published, there is NO NEED TO ABANDON THE ISBN! That's good to know! So we can get on with the whole thing without any distraction! Phew. Also, after having worked out the cost and retail pricing thingy for Lulu, I find that I will have to sell my book for quite a high price if I want to do things properly and with an absolutely minute profit on each sale... Did you know that there is a wholesale price and a retail price, the latter being the equivalent to wholesale price X 2? I didn't... It's a big adventure... I have now postponed the publication date even further to November 2012 to be on the safe side! Remain ... Calm ... |
