 And... Draft 1 has reached 50,000 words!
There is still a lot to be done... But I am happy to have made quite a bit of progress over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, time has come for me to pause my work on this for a couple of months. St Catherine's chapel in its spectacular scenery, with The Fleet and Chesil Beach in the background. I have three days of writing time before I have to drop tools to concentrate on a big freelance project, so I will try to make the most of it to make progress on draft 1 of The Right Place.
Last autumn/winter, I had an exhausting job that prevented me from doing anything else but work and my daily commute was quite long. I missed all the action of that most beautiful and inspiring of seasons. This year, I am determined to be out and about in Dorset as much as possible, especially around 25th November which is St Catherine's day - the chapel on top of the hill in Abbotsbury is dedicated to this intriguing saint. In my book, the fictional band Veasta celebrates with a performance taking place at the top of Chapel's Hill! I will be walking around the village quite a bit around that time! :-) Yesterday, as we had been to Bridport, we stopped off to enjoy the view from the top of the ridgeway... It is still my favourite place in the whole world, and I cannot believe my luck to have been able to move to this beautiful coast five years ago! 17/8/2022 Publishing... A lot of things have gone badly wrong in the publishing industry over the past few years (in the "traditional" publishing industry I mean.). Thankfully, nowadays, you don't need an agent or a big publishing house if you want to publish your books. I am so glad I decided to launch Arcane Publishing back in 2012. I have full control of what I write and how I publish... Obviously, I wish I had a bigger budget, but I am only at the beginning of this journey (even though Arcane was officially launched 10 year ago!) and intend on developing Arcane further over the next few years... And I really cannot wait to launch my online bookshop in 2023!
11/8/2022 Working on draft 1 of The Right Place... I am making slow progress on draft 1 of The Right Place, but unfortunately, it looks like I will need to push the pub date back further into early 2024... I need to get it right, and this will require time...
I am also thinking more and more about my fourth novel, Hell Lane: A Barton Stacey Mystery... I have been getting research material! More about this one later... |
