27/4/2012 Culture clashIt is not often that I link an article from The Guardian on here. But for once, they cover an aspect of our culture that doesn't go with the trends...
It is rare that really interesting, non-mainstream people are featured in that kind of paper... a nice change! CARL MCCOY IN THE GUARDIAN 12/4/2012 Away I go...On Saturday, I am going back to my favourite place: Dorset.
Since the age of 5, my dream has been to be "the writer in the cottage at the top of the hill", sea views optional - but the sea never far away... So since last year, I've been training and going on recces! Unfortunately, I have some work to do over the next two days before I leave and therefore will not be working on my books at all before the end of April... Oh well, I am planning on coming back all refreshed and ready to work even more when I'm back... There is so much work to do: one novel to publish, one collection of texts to get ready for publication and one book to write... In the meantime, it will be a week and a half without a computer... 4/4/2012 Prepare, prepareYesterday, I started the final formatting of my first manuscript - I Am a Muse - for publication on Lulu. It is taking ages! But I just HAVE to get this right. The manuscript is looking more like a proper book now, with header and drop caps and all that...
I guess an early May publication might have been slightly too optimistic, as I need to sort out the cover, artwork inserts - I will be adding black and white illustrations by Sabine T - and additional (front) pages. Then we need to create the PDFs to upload, sort out the cover and get Matt ArtPix to work on it for me. Oh, and I am going to Dorset for a week (away from the desk and the computer). So we might be looking at a June publication now, as I would like to request a proof copy first to check that everything is fine... It has really made me think about creating my own imprint, but it will not happen for I Am a Muse. I guess I can always re-publish it if and when I have a proper imprint... I have been writing too this week, I've added about 4,000 words to The Book of Thoth! I really feel like I am doing proper "writer" work these days. I have stolen the image above from Christopher Fowler's blog.
The image is by Hilary B Price, and her website is fantastic: http://www.rhymeswithorange.com/ Now that I know it is there, I will be visiting it regularly! |
