"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." ~Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)
Biography
I have lived and worked in Cornwall, London, Oxford and Southend-on-Sea; I am now based in Dorset.
I have studied English language and literature, philosophy and art for my Baccalauréat and I have a degree in English and American Studies. I have trained as a teacher of English language and literature in France and I have a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages from The Institute of Education in London.
In October 2009, I became self-employed in order to concentrate on my writing projects.
Moreover, I have worked for over ten years as a prolific music journalist for print and online magazines (UK, US, France and Germany). I have spent many nights in dark venues all around London, and this environment has definitely had an impact on my writing.
I still regularly blog about writing, antiques and vintage, cinema, theatre, music, literature and art.
In July 2012, I launched Arcane Publishing after a year spent submitting to literary agents. My first novel, I Am a Muse, was published by Arcane Publishing in April 2013 as a limited edition paperback. My second novel, The Book of Thoth, was published in 2015.
I love collecting rare books and I am also a pre-loved, vintage and rare books trader.
In October 2012, I was selected to participate in Metal Southend's Culture Lab: On writing Fiction.
Guest speakers were writers Cathi Unsworth, Christopher Fowler and Julie Myerson.
I have blogged about my experience HERE.
In November 2013, I was one of the authors reading at Shorelines: Literature Festival of the Sea.
I have written a report on the festival HERE.
In February 2016, I co-organised the first London: Winter Tales, an evening of poetry, readings and music in London.
The second London: Winter Tales took place in February 2018 and was named "The Witching Hour".
You can read all about it HERE (scroll down to the "We organise events" section).
I have a passion for London, the British countryside and coastline (especially Dorset) and Scandinavian landscapes.
My favourite seasons are autumn and winter. They inspire me.
I have numerous and various interests and am a real culture vulture.
Interests: Matt ArtPix, live music, literature, reading, writing, art, the theatre, the cinema, museums, the history of London, British history, antiques and vintage, the sea.
I've always believed that anger is a positive creative force.
