6/8/2012 Arcane Publishing mini-websiteI have started a mini-website for Arcane Publishing. There is not a lot on there yet, but I am hoping to add to it soon...
I will have to postpone the publication of I Am a Muse to October now, as everything is going very slowly and I do not wish to rush things... There are still a lot of things that could go wrong, therefore these are anxious times... Publishing on Lulu is much more difficult than I thought, and registering as a publisher has made things slightly more complicated... Matt ArtPix has started working on the Arcane Publishing logo and on the I Am a Muse cover. His contribution is truly invaluable and things are taking shape... I've picked up the paint brushes for the cover... Very apt for a book about a painter... If this is not DIY, I don't know what is! To Be Continued... 5/8/2012 Some more fabulous findsA successful weekend in terms of unusual finds... I have acquired these items for next to nothing, and after having done some online research... Well, all I can say is that I am extremely satisfied with my purchases! First, a splendid copy of a book I have recently re-read (I had read it in French when I was a child!). Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome. Presumed First Edition, 1889, with a handwritten dedication dated 3/7/95 (1895) and some lovely illustrations throughout by Arthur Frederics. Then after having found a wonderful book of poems by Christina Rossetti a few weeks ago, I have now acquired a book of poems by her more (in)famous brother, Dante Gabriel: The Blessed Damozel (and other poems) part of the Friendship Booklets series published by T.N Foulis LTD and illustrated by Paul Woodroffe. (presumed to be from 1916, with handwritten message dated "Summer 1925"). Another fantastic find was the fabulous Winkles and Champagne by M. Willson Disher (first published 1938, this edition 1974). It is a book about the British Music Hall and is illustrated with lovely photographs, programmes, song covers, bills, posters and cartoons (mainly from the author's personal collection!) I also bought two books from the lavishly illustrated Time-Life series "Seafarers" (1978), The Vikings and The Pirates! Finally, I got my hands on these five illustrations by Anne Anderson (1874-1930) the whole lot for ... £2.50! Aren't they absolutely gorgeous? 4/8/2012 I Am a Muse imagesI have added a few images in the I Am a Muse picture gallery on the I Am a Muse page. I will add some more in the forthcoming weeks.
In the meantime, I am giving myself headaches trying to understand yet more Lulu features. I am sweating over barcode generation and distribution deals... I think I should just stop fretting about it and just do the bloody thing. Still need to sort out the cover... I still a little bit timid about throwing myself body and soul in the publishing process, and this stems from a lack of "business confidence". Therefore I am going to get myself the book Inside Book Publishing. 1/8/2012 AntiOut of the blue, out of my dreams and my deepest thoughts, ideas have been rushing to my head for my third book, which has the working title of Anti.
I am getting surrealistic images and frankly weird ideas for this one... I scribble ideas about characters and sets in my big notebook, and I am curious to see where these will be taking me in the forthcoming months... I might have to start adding some pictures/visuals to that page too. I wasn't sure I could handle working on two books at the same time, but it seems that I am indeed able to, even though this is only the very, very beginning for Anti. 1/8/2012 Visuals for I Am a MuseI have been toying with the idea of starting using Pinterest in order to promote my books. After browsing through the site and reading a few blogs, I've realised that I really cannot be bothered to subscribe to yet another Social Media outlet. So I will be posting some images in the I Am a Muse page just as I've done on The Book of Thoth page.
Over on Lulu, have re-formatted I Am a Muse to the chunky, satisfyingly big US Trade size, and I hope it will make the illustration and cover even more striking. The content is ready once again, and now I need to wait for the cover to be done as I cannot do it myself to the standard I'd wish it to be. I will try and keep it as simple as possible. I am getting really impatient now... Today, I am going back to writing The Book of Thoth. |
