19/1/2012 Time!I haven't been writing a lot on here lately as I have been really busy, what with a lot of freelance work, an interview in London, more work, trying to finish off Joolz Denby's Wild Thing so I can write a review (when on earth will I find the time to write it?)...
I think about my books all the while and don't seem to find any time to spend on them, what a disaster! It has been three months without writing a line, now... Shameful, really! So this blog will not be updated as much as I'd like in the next few weeks; I will still try and do a review of Wild Thing on here in the next two weeks, because it is one of the best books ever - a masterpiece - while starting to read Christopher Fowler's Hell Train (I will try for a little review of this too!). I will do my best to keep up with the blog as I enjoy writing it so much... Keep coming back, you never know what you might find... Today, I will be away from my desk and will be seeing The Artist and then Christopher Fowler in Foyles... (See BLOG HERE) A bit of culture does you good! 9/1/2012 Quick!I cannot wait for January 19th. First, it will be The Artist at the Curzon Soho. Then, we will make our way to Foyles on Charing Cross Road to see Christopher Fowler in conversation with Solaris' editor-in-chief, Jonathan Oliver.
I am hoping to buy Mr Fowler's new book Hell Train and get it signed! It is going to be a hell of a read (ha ha). 20/11/2011 Wild Thing by Joolz DenbyIndie press Ignite Books have just announced that Joolz Denby's Wild Thing will be out on December 1st 2011. I had the privilege of reading the Word Document version a few months ago when Joolz, in a bout of anger against the traditional publishing world, offered to send the file to any reader who wanted to read it.
It is a stunning, visceral book that threads the thin line between being a human being or/and an animal. Although not for the faint-hearted, it is a sensational read and will stay with you for a long, long time after you've read it... I for one will be buying the published version and will re-read it. Watch this space for a little review... 14/11/2011 Reading... The Jeeves Omnibus 2Now that I have finished Mr Fowler's captivating "The Victoria Vanishes", I am moving on swiftly to P.G Wodehouse, a Jeeves Omnibus, no less! This one bought at the rather wunderbar Sanctuary Bookshop in Lyme Regis at a very very reasonable price.
6/11/2011 Reading...Christopher Fowler's "The Victoria Vanishes".
It is once again a delicious, fascinating read full of fantastically quotable quips... 2/11/2011 Talking about dark deeds...All this Halloween stuff made me think about re-reading all my Poppy Z Brite.
It's not for the faint-hearted and MOST definitely NOT for "Amazon Readers 1 and 2" mentioned in my previous blog. There's an awful, awful lot of DRINKING and SMOKING - and not only cigarettes - and loads of drugs and sex and all kinds of debauchery. But it's all incredibly atmospheric and at times lyrical, raw, violent, haunting, nauseating, and incredibly beautiful. Try it if you dare... |
