20/7/2012 ProjectsI have updated my HOME page with a list of projects I'd like to work on in the future.
I am very excited about it, and all I can do is keep my fingers crossed that it all goes to plan and come to fruition - and doesn't get derailed because of lack of funds and the necessity to earn a living... 19/7/2012 Website design changeI have changed the design of my website by using a Weebly theme with a vertical menu, so all the pages on my menu appear on the left-hand side of the page. It's not the best of looks but it will do in the meantime!
16/7/2012 The Book of Thoth picture galleryI have re-done the picture gallery on The Book of Thoth page to make it a bit clearer. I might add a few pictures later on as I go along. I have used these pictures as inspiration for various scenes and settings in the book.
13/7/2012 Two more cover mock-ups We are about to embark on the design of the I Am a Muse cover. I have two more drafts here today.
At the moment, I'd like to stick to my idea of having a red, oil-paint like background and either a female "sketch" silhouette or Sabine T's wonderful Daphne illustration. If for some reason Sabine's illustration doesn't come out well enough on the cover, I will move it to one of the introductory pages, hoping that the paper will be of a good enough quality not to mess up the image... I personally prefer the cover with Sabine's artwork, as it gives a surrealistic feel to the whole thing... 13/7/2012 Fabulous wordy videoThe ever-amazing Amanda Palmer's new video is a dream for a writer, a wonderful tribute to the written word... Loads and loads of ink, a dash of poetry, a bit of a stop-motion tour de force.
You Tube gets you to sign in or whatever to watch it because it's NOT SAFE FOR WORK, so I'm not sharing it on here - too much of a pain - follow the link above to watch the uncensored version direct on Amanda's website. It's just wonderful! 10/7/2012 Almost thereI think I have a name for my "publishing company", at last!
I will not register it in the first instance as all I needed was a name to put on the form and it is not a business venture just yet - it will fall under the self-employment category, the same as my freelance work. I only wanted a name under which I can publish my own books under my own ISBNs. Now I need to do the paperwork and get my 10 ISBNs from the Nielsen agency. I also need my cover to be done. I am doing a "proper" book and want the cover to be nice. At the moment, everything is on schedule and I still hope to be able to publish "I Am a Muse" for early September. Fingers and toes crossed... 9/7/2012 The Artist We had a wonderful time yesterday at The Palace Theatre, where The White Bus was showing The Artist. But first, we were entertained in the foyer by the lovely Mayflowers. They were singing songs from the twenties and beyond, and looked like a pair of flappers straight out of a good Roaring Twenties party... They were therefore perfect pre-movie entertainment! I was not expecting so many people to turn up so much in advance, but everyone made the effort and the place was absolutely packed! Below: Serena Elizabeth and Hannah, the two Mayflowers... The pictures could have been better, but my camera is extremely temperamental... It's been to too many gigs. The Artist is one of those movies you shouldn't see in a bland, aggressively corporate multiplex. The first time we saw it was at the awfully nice Curzon Soho. The Palace Theatre was more than appropriate for seeing it a second time. I enjoyed the movie even more, taking in the great acting and wonderful music, and revelling in the evocation of the Silent Era, a period I've been fascinated with for quite a long time, having read the biographies of Louise Brooks, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, Mary Pickford and Lillian Gish - I also recommend the fantastic Movies of the Silent Years published by Orbis (part of an amazing series covering the Silent era up to the 70s). We are now looking forward to The Palace Theatre's centenary celebrations and especially to the three evenings of 1930s cinema - we already have our tickets! - and the backstage visits in October!

5/7/2012 InspirationI have spent the past two days immersed in the Chambers Dictionary of the Unexplained, looking for inspiration for The Book of Thoth.
And it's worked! What an amazing, entertaining and at times hilarious book (the stuff people believe in...) The world is weird! Full of the most fantastic and fantastical beliefs and stories... I have to go back... and writing resumes on Monday! I also really enjoyed the Radio 4 programme "The Uncanny"; very atmospheric! Unfortunately it is no longer available to listen to, but there is a little write up and a clip on the Radio 4 page linked above. |
